Better still, Boris should actually try living in these places for a week or two. Only then will he really be able to understand what life is like for the rest of us. And only then will he really feel moved to do anything about it.

The Conservative Party's PR machine is working very well when it comes to social issues, but in terms of concrete policies to solve these stabbings and the depravation in areas such as Edmonton, they are more than a bit light.

Judging by the names of the victims, it would appear that 99percent of the people suffering knife crime are of foreign origin? This makes it very difficult for any native English person, such as Boris, to understand why they carry knives, let alone stab people at random. Of course, no doubt the same kind of crime is common in the places from whence they originate, where life for the average person is not what we expect in London, but there is no earthly reason for anyone to carry such weapons in civilised society and perhaps the politicians should have the balls to start telling them that...

Good points about Edmonton. My mother who used to work in the North Middlesex hospital, was up there recently to meet some ex-colleages of hers for lunch. At the station she was approached by a man of scruffy appearance asking for money. She did not let on but it is unpleasant for someone who is elderly. This sort of thing makes me furious. The police need to have more powers in dealing with all types of low-level crime. However they are completely mired down by this government's spineless laws.

@Johnathan - by your logic, not only are 99% of stab victims of foreign origin because of their funny sounding names but so are 100% of current London mayors (what could be more English than a name like Boris?). I suggest you grow up and realise that London has been a foreigner-inhabited place for centuries.

Jonathan Monmorency:
A person's name does not decide their nationality. A 'foreignsounding' name does not make a person foreign. These young BRITISH men were born into a Britain which we are all responsible for to some extent.

The issue is too complex to simply be blamed on 'the foreigners.'
